Calling All JC Legacies Arts Recipients:
The Art Gallery Committee of the Japanese Canadian Community Centre JCCC is inviting recipients of Arts funding from the JC Legacies Community Fund to submit your project for an opportunity to exhibit within our Art Gallery as a featured artist in a JCLS art show.
We are a committee of dedicated volunteers supported by full-time staff including a Manager Exhibition and Research. Our Gallery’s purpose is ‘to celebrate works by Canadian and International artists of Japanese descent (with their affiliates who may not necessarily be of Japanese
Canadian descent); encouraging collaboration, dialogue and art education’. The Gallery space itself is a designated 1,800 square-foot area with 156 linear feet of wall space on the main floor adjacent to the museum within the JCCC located at 6 Sakura Way, Toronto. We can accommodate 2 wall-based artists with approximately 60 linear feet x 10 feet high wall space. We could also possibly accommodate another artist with free-standing work in the space in the middle.
The exhibition will be supported with an Artist Talk and/or Demonstration; and Opening Reception. The Art Committee will support Art for sale if desired with a 25% commission to support the JCCC. The Exhibit is being planned for the summer of 2025 (July and August); which should provide sufficient time for preparation and arrangements. The JCCC Art Committee will select the artists featured in this exhibition. We are aware that your grant is based on an approved number of works and method of display and we will support this vision if you are one of the artists selected. If you are interested in exhibiting, we request that you submit the details of your approved exhibit so that we can display your work appropriately and an Artist Statement briefly outlining your art concept and/or philosophy. Following the selection process, we plan to engage with the selected Artists for individual input in further developing this JCLS Arts Group Exhibit. Below are pics of previous Exhibits featured within the JCCC Art Gallery and a CAD drawing of the layout of the gallery space.
All submissions are to be received by November 30, 2024. Please forward your inquiries and your submission by e-mail to:
